How to Assemble Your Recurve Bow — Complete Step by Step Guide 2026

Before You Begin — Safety First

Assembling a recurve bow incorrectly can damage your equipment and cause injury. Always read this guide fully before touching your bow. If you have any doubts, WhatsApp our ArcheryAsia support team before proceeding.

What You Will Need

Step 1 — Attach the Limbs to the Riser

Lay the riser flat on a clean surface. Insert the top limb first, then the bottom limb. Tighten the limb bolts firmly but not over-tightened. If you are using a Gillo GT Lux 23 Formula riser (₹56,842) with Win&Win Wiawis NS-G limbs (₹65,000), ensure you are using the correct Formula-compatible fittings.

Step 2 — String the Bow Using a Bow Stringer

Never bend the limbs by hand — this is the most common mistake beginners make and can cause permanent limb damage. Always use the Hoyt Recurve Pro Series Bow Stringer (₹1,250).

  1. Slide the larger loop of the bowstring onto the top limb tip
  2. Slide the smaller loop onto the bottom limb tip groove
  3. Place the stringer saddle over the top limb tip and pocket over the bottom
  4. Step on the stringer cord and lift the bow smoothly
  5. As the limbs flex, slide the top string loop into the groove
  6. Release tension, remove the stringer, and check both loops are properly seated

Step 3 — Check Your Brace Height

Brace height is the distance from the grip pivot point to the string — should be 7 to 9 inches for most recurve bows. Use the Beiter Limbs Line Gauge (₹628) to measure accurately. Adjust by twisting or untwisting the string.

Step 4 — Attach the Arrow Rest

Attach the Shibuya Magnetic Ultima Arrow Rest (₹3,500) just above the arrow shelf on the riser. It works for both left and right-handed archers and flips magnetically out of the way after each shot for clean, consistent arrow flight.

Step 5 — Set the Nocking Point

Use a bow square to find 90 degrees square to the string. Place your nocking point 1cm above that position. Clamp firmly with nocking pliers. Use the Easton Nock Tool Super (₹2,044 for 25 pieces) to install and remove nocks cleanly.

Step 6 — Pre-Shoot Safety Check

  • ✓ Both limbs firmly attached with no wobble
  • ✓ String loops seated in both limb tip grooves
  • ✓ No cracks or splinters on limbs or riser
  • ✓ String has no fraying — wax regularly with TenPoint String Wax (₹1,647)
  • ✓ Nocking point secure and arrow rest firmly attached

Maintenance Tips for Indian Conditions

India's monsoon humidity affects equipment quickly. Store your bow unstrung in a cool, dry place. Apply TenPoint String Wax and Conditioner (₹1,647) every 2 to 3 weeks and after any session in rain or humidity.
