How to Pack Your Archery Equipment for Travel and Competition — India 2026

Why Packing Matters in Archery

Your archery equipment is a serious investment. A competition-grade recurve riser costs ₹56,000 or more. A set of Easton X10 arrows costs ₹45,000 a dozen. Packing carelessly and arriving at a competition with a cracked limb or bent arrows is entirely avoidable with the right habits and bags.

The Right Bag — Easton Recurve Club Backpack — ₹6,330

The Easton Recurve Club Backpack in Grey (₹6,330) is designed specifically for the take-down recurve archer — with dedicated compartments for your riser, limbs, arrows, and accessories. Comfortable padded back panel, compact enough to fit in an overhead locker on domestic flights within India.

How to Pack Your Bow

Always disassemble your take-down recurve before travel — remove the limbs and unstring the bow. Never leave the bow strung during transport. Wrap the riser in a soft cloth, place the limbs separately, and never stack the riser on top of the limbs.

How to Pack Arrows

Carbon arrows crack if a hard object falls on them. Aluminium arrows bend if packed loosely. Always use an arrow tube or dedicated arrow compartment to keep them straight, parallel, and separated from hard equipment. For Easton X10 carbon arrows (₹45,000 a dozen), a hard arrow case is strongly recommended for train or bus travel.

Accessories Checklist for Every Competition or Away Trip

Packing for a Domestic Flight in India

  • Arrows must always be checked in — never allowed in cabin baggage regardless of airline
  • The bow can sometimes be cabin baggage if disassembled and under size limit — check with your airline. When in doubt, check it in.
  • Declare your equipment at check-in as sports equipment — most airlines handle this without issue
  • Arrive early — sports equipment check-in sometimes takes longer
